protest

Protest
Gut roiling in turmoil
Life torn from its moorings
My heart beats out its protest
Far from home, far from home
Words left unspoken
Life unfulfilled
My heart beats out its protest
Alone, alone
Crashing, howling, world moves on
Carrying me in its wake
Tearing the flesh from my bones
My heart beats out its protest
Can’t go on, can’t go on
Reduced to numbers and logic
Standing in the cold
My heart beats out its protest,
I’m zero sum, zero sum
Dreams stolen, love deflated
Never tasting life again
My heart beats out its protest,
Just a friend, just a friend
Smile, laugh, sing you jester
The world must never know
My heart beats out its protest,
Carry on, carry on.
